The Early Years • The Fish Tale Tale
Our Original Drive-In Opened in May of 1979 on Route 1 in Madison. Seating consisted of a grand total of 4 picnic tables on a screened in porch!
This picture was taken in the mid 80's. The covered area to the right was our Outdoor Lobster Stand!
This stand was open from May to September, until we built our present day Drive-In in 1989!
After 2 summers at the Madison Drive-In, Lenny & Joe opened a second Family Restaurant in Clinton on Route 1. This was a 70 seat restaurant, with waitress service, and it opened in February of 1981. The Family Restaurant remained open year round! The Restaurant served broiled, as well as the traditional Fish Tale fried menu!

The Family Restaurant was in operation at the Clinton location until May, 1986. At that time the Fish Tale Family Restaurant moved to it's present location on Route 1 in Westbrook!

For those who wonder, the Clinton location was torn down and is now the site of a Monroe Muffler Store!

Who are these 2 Guys?
A small hint; they are not Ben & Jerry!
Yes, Lenny & Joe are brothers. This is a very early picture of the boys planning something at a very young age.
Lenny is on the left, Joe is on the right!
They are not wearing Fish Tale T-Shirts, but very nice matching vests and bow ties!
Same Two Guys!
Lenny (right) and Joe (left), shake hands as they get ready to close the Madison Drive-In for the Season, September, 1982.
Lenny and Joe's Fish Tales are now Open Year Round, 7 Days a Week! The only 2 days that we close are Thanksgiving and Christmas.
